A 5 day / 4 night program traveling from Bangkok to Chumphon,
exploring little-known and undiscovered attractions along the way.
On this road trip we will explore the beauty of Thailand’s countryside, showcasing a variety of cultural and natural attractions, visiting both well-known and hidden spots along the way.
Hua Hin has long been regarded as a Royal retreat and is now home to an array of high-end hotels, pristine beaches and hidden attractions. Phetchaburi city is a bustling town, proud of its majestic temples and caves which provides and interesting contrast to Hua Hin.
Known as ‘Thai Riviera’ thanks to its amazing beach properties along the coastline, we visit couple of unique National Parks, before exploring the wonders of the underwater world.
After breakfast, we begin our journey south to Hua Hin and stop along the way to visit Khao Luang Cave and Phra Nakhon Kiri Historical Park in Petchaburi.
Built on a small hill with a height of 92 meters, Khao Luang is regarded as the largest and most impressive cave shrine in the province, as it houses Buddha statues in various sizes and shapes. It has always been an important meditation site as well as a favorite of King Rama III, IV, V.
While attractions within the cave compound include a large multi-purpose hall and a chapel laden with beautifully carved door panels, the main highlight is the dramatic way the sun rays shine through a perfectly positioned clearing in the cave almost as a natural spotlight above the temple below.
A short distance from Khao Luang Cave, we find Phra Nakhon Kiri (locally known as Khao Wang) located directly in the city. It was built under the command of King Rama IV in 1860 and used as his summer palace.
Spread across the three mountain peaks, the whole compound is comprised of a royal hall, palace, temples, and other buildings which were elegantly constructed in a well-balanced Thai, Western, and Chinese architectural style.
We then take trip to a nearby vantage point to take in the gorgeous views of Petchaburi city.
For the lunch, we will visit an authentic Thai restaurant with flavourful local dishes.
After lunch, we continue our journey onwards to Hua Hin. The remainder of day is yours at leisure.
Note: Those who enjoy experiencing the local culture may visit Hua Hin Night Market (open daily) or Cicada Market (Fri-Sun) once the sun goes down.
Enjoy breakfast and an early morning swim before we travel around 25 km from Hua Hin further down the coast.
Pranburi Forest Park is located next to Pran Buri River and popular for its one km long mangrove forest walk, which at one point elevates to canopy level offering a great view of the surroundings. If tide allows, we will take a local boat to explore one of the close-by fisherman villages.
Note: If you are an early riser and don’t mind a busy day, we can leave about 2 hours earlier and visit Thung Sam Roi Yot as an additional experience along the way. Framed by a vast expanse of limestone peaks, this impressive wetland is home to a variety of aquatic plant species including white and pink water lilies. Connecting seven red-roofed pavilions, a long elevated wooden walkway leads over mirror-like water, allowing visitors to be as close to nature as it can be.
Afterwards, we follow the route further south towards Prachuap Khiri Khan city.
The provincial capital is mainly serving as fishing port but thanks to curving bays, long beach stretches and mountain ranges. Much less developed and quiet compared to Hua Hin, Prachuap has preserved its authenticity as sleepy seaside town.
We will enjoy late lunch at on of the famous local seafood restaurants in town.
Our next stop will lead us 400 steps to the top of a small mountain, reaching Wat Thammikaram where the view will be worth the effort. Late afternoon, we will reach the resort for check in and enjoy the evening at leisure.
After breakfast, we venture to Wat Bang Poo, from where we take a boat ride to Laem Sala Beach. From here, we hike uphill for about 45 minutes to visit Phraya Nakhon Cave, one of Thailand’s mysterious landmarks.
Once we climb into the well-hidden cave system, we spot the four-gable roofed royal pavilion which was built in 1890 in honor of King Rama IV. Now, this pavilion has become an iconic symbol of Prachuapkirikun Province. What makes this landmark special is when the sunlight shines from a certain angle through a sinkhole above the pavilion, the opening illuminates a beam of light over the pavilion, almost as a spotlight from above.
Depending on the time we have available , we will have lunch at Laem Sala Beach or stop at a local restaurant as we continue our journey.
Your travel expert will discuss options for you in the afternoon. If you would like to spend some time at leisure, simply relax at the beach or if time allows, drive back to your hotel for freshening up.
Otherwise, enjoy a relaxing boat trip along the Khao Daeng Canal passing the dense mangrove forest and lush vegetation with a beautiful mountainous backdrop. The canal will lead us to a local fishing village lined with stilt houses and colorful small fishing boats. The boat trip takes approximately one hour and we will disembark at a pier next to Khao Daeng temple.
If the morning activity wasn’t enough, we recommend to hike up to the peak of Khao Daeng for a breathtaking view overlooking the national park area and surrounding villages. The hike may be challenging (approx. 30-45 minutes each way) but the view from the peak is well worth the effort.
Today’s final stop is Kui Buri National Park where we enjoy Thailand’s best and for many ‘only true ’ wildlife safari tour.
Kui Buri National Park is an immensely picturesque forest that offers a rich diversity and stunning natural beauty. Sit on the steep Tanaosri Mountain range, it is home to the biggest population of wild elephants, gaurs and over 260 species of birds, with many more to be found.
From our private vehicle we have the opportunity to witness wildlife in their natural habitat. With an estimated elephant population of 320, it's been said that visitors have a 99% chance of seeing them throughout the year, late afternoon being the best time.
Return to your hotel thereafter.
After an early check-out, we depart to Thung Ma Ha Pier in Chumphon. Upon arrival, meet the experienced crew who will lead the sea trip today and after a short briefing, we board our speedboat and cruise to Koh Ran Ped and Koh Ran Kai.
Containing an abundance of marine ecosystems, Ran Ped and Ran Kai are regarded as the best-hidden snorkelling and diving spots in Thailand. Thanks to the fact that these two islands are relatively unknown and have been less explored, Koh Ran Ped and Ran Kai have a vibrant underwater world. We will have an excellent chance to witness a multitude of marine life and a heart-shaped underwater cave. If we are lucky enough we may have a chance to see whale sharks which can be often spotted in this area.
Afterwards, we cruise further to Koh Yor for a fresh seafood lunch.
Koh Yor is home to a crab bank, established by a group of fishermen who live in this area. but the main purpose of this crab bank project is not only to have a sustainable income, but to encourage the community to realize the importance of conservation of their local resources. There is a wooden bridge linking the restaurant to the island which we can explore after lunch.
Next, we move on to Koh Wiang, the mid-size remote yet gorgeous island comprises fertile mangrove forest, shallow sea, and beautiful sandy beach. Here, we are given some time to wander around, or simply relax at our own pace. When it’s time, we board our speedboat and return to the mainland. Then, transfer onwards to our accommodation in the city and the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Depart to Chumphon Airport for the onward flight to our next destination.
OR
Depart to Chumphon Ferry Terminal to catch the high-speed catamaran to one of the neighboring islands.
Note: Chumpon is the gateway to Thailand’s southern provinces as well as the islands in the Gulf of Thailand, particularly Koh Tao, Koh Pha Ngan, and Koh Samui. For those who wish to further explore or relax at the back end of the trip on one of the heavenly islands, we highly recommend Koh Tao (a well-known snorkelling and scuba diving site among divers from around the world), Koh Samui (comprises many white sandy beaches and a wide range of luxury accommodation), or Koh Pha Ngan (best known for its laid back ambience, parties and its hidden pristine beaches).
