A 4 day / 3 night Kanchanaburi program that delves into rich history and culture combined with adventure and relaxation.
Kanchanaburi is a must see destination for history and nature. This program covers a wide range of attractions and activities, such as an in-depth overview of the famed history of the area, followed by a visit to an elephant conservation center, the waterfalls and landscapes of Sri Nakarin Dam National and ending with a relaxing stay at an architecturally striking floating resort.
Begin the day with an early start as we travel to Kanchanaburi city (2.5 hours approximately) with our first stop on arrival being the Thailand-Burma Railway Center.
This museum is home to an interactive exhibition which presents the history of the Thailand-Burma railway, a 145-kilometer train track between Bang Pong in Thailand and Thanbuyuzayat in Myanmar. It’s an educational chronicle of the building of the railway by prisoners of war during the invasion of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, with photographs of the construction and a glimpse at the living conditions and hardships of the time.
Next, we stop at the Allied War Cemetery for a short visit before continuing to the legendary River Kwai Bridge. This bridge was part of the railway lines in World War II and has seen its share of conflict and bloodshed. If this black iron bridge can tell a story, you can be sure it's a dramatic one.
We take a reminiscent train ride along the historic Death Railway, following the dangerous curving wooden bridge built by the allied prisoners during the war. The train will pass through lush forest along the Kwai River with a scenic mountain backdrop.
On arrival at Nam Tok station, we will then be transferred to Phutakien Pier to take a traditional long-tailed boat to our accommodation. The boat along the historical River Kwai Noi is gives us the opportunity to witness stunning fertile nature along the Kwai River.
After check-in, we enjoy lunch at the resort’s restaurant.
The afternoon is free leisure time to relax and enjoy the resort’s facilities.
After dinner, we will be guests of the local village to see the traditional moon dance - a performance that should not be missed. After the performance we return to our resort to enjoy the rest of the evening at our leisure.
Meet your travel expert this morning and embark on a day of discovery through the scenic countryside surrounding Kanchanaburi.
Our first stop is Elephants World, an environmental conservation organisation dedicated to the care of domestic elephants, located just outside Kanchanaburi. This self-sustaining facility cares for over 30 elephants, offering us the unique opportunity to connect with these majestic creatures in a respectful and meaningful way.
At Elephants World, the primary focus is on providing the best possible care for the elephants, ensuring their happiness, health, and safety. Visitors are warmly welcomed and encouraged to learn about the elephants’ daily needs, making the experience both educational and rewarding. Through this collaboration, we gain a deeper appreciation for these incredible animals while supporting ongoing conservation efforts to secure their future.
Next, we continue our journey to Erawan National Park, home to one of Thailand's most popular natural attractions – the seven-tiered Erawan Falls, nestled in the Tenasserim Hills. The park’s main highlight is the striking waterfall, with its clear, emerald-green pools inviting us to take in the beauty of the surroundings.
The falls are named after the top tier, which, according to Hindu mythology, is said to resemble a three-headed white elephant. While not the largest or widest waterfall in Thailand, Erawan Falls is widely regarded as one of the most picturesque, making it a must-visit spot for nature enthusiasts.
After enjoying the breathtaking falls, we’ll make our way back to your accommodation, where we can unwind and reflect on a day filled with unforgettable experiences.
Today, join your travel expert for a visit to the stunning Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall, a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts. Located 105km north of Kanchanaburi, this remarkable waterfall is one of Thailand’s most beautiful, with water cascading down from the Kala Mountain range towards the Sri Nakarin Dam.
Similar to Erawan Falls, Huay Mae Khamin features vibrant emerald waters flowing over limestone steps, which appear almost man-made due to their striking beauty. The waterfall is set amidst a serene landscape of sparse forests, mountain ranges, and a variety of exotic plants and herbs.
The waterfall is divided into seven levels, stretching over a kilometre. As you make your way to the seventh level, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of the Sri Nakarin Reservoir. Take your time to admire the scenery and enjoy the refreshing coolness of the stream before heading back to your resort.
This last morning we check out and head south-east to Wat Tham Sue (Tiger Cave Temple), the largest temple complex in Kanchanaburi, built in 1973 in a splendid mixed, Thai-Chinese style.
The temple enshrines a huge Buddha image (18 metres high and 10 metres wide), with many local Thai residents visiting daily to make merit with the Buddha. There is a climb of 157 steps to access the temple or we can take a small cable car.
Up at the top, the mesmerizing 360-degree view of the surroundings awaits, and if we are in the green season, the view overlooking the rice fields is truly dramatic. The other important element of the temple is its quite atypical 7-storey chedi, which may be climbed at least for the view of the Buddha from the windows.
The temple complex is called the Tiger Cave Temple because in the past, the cave was supposedly home to a family of tigers, who have now gone and have been replaced with a Thai-style tiger shrine.
(Note: This is not to be confused with Kanchanaburi’s “Tiger Temple” which has been accused of drugging tigers for the sake of tourist photo opportunities, rest assured this is not the same place.) Lunch will be served at a local restaurant near Wat Tham Sue. After lunch, we make the drive onwards to Bangkok or your next destination (the drive takes 1 hour 45 minutes approximately).
